Xbox 360: The Future of Television

It's no doubt that the Xbox 360 is a revolutionary gaming console that came out with all the frills and thrills. Exclusive games were promised to the console, and its 60gb harddrive capacity (the 20gb has been discontinued as of July 2008) lets the player download more files and upgrades from the Internet. Xbox Live, the site that lets you play with others users online, is also available for a small price. The Xbox 360 revolution obviously managed to snag a lot of gaming fans in this release. Its dashboard interface was aptly designed with great visuals, making it user-friendly and easy to manipulate.

One of the best things about Xbox 360, however, is not only with the games offered. In fact, unlike its many predecessors, Xbox 360 acknowledges that even gamers have some other things to focus on, like music, movies, TV shows, and others. Which is why the Ethernet connection not only allows the users to connect for their online games, but also lets them grab free files online, or sometimes for a small fee. Take, for example, the limited download of the first three episodes of Battlestar Gallactica. It not only showed the capabilities of Xbox 360 to download online, but also shows the different things you can use the console for. Most of all, it works well with the production shows because it promotes the TV show to a new audience, generating enough interest for the show to garner a huge following.

PS3 is well on its way to improving its standards, following the directions of Xbox 360. Wii has chosen an altogether new direction, especially with the newly-released Wii Fit peripherals. It's possible that handheld consoles will soon follow, if Nintendo DS can make the same connections as Xbox 36--after all, it already has a wi-fi. However, it's very clear the Xbox 360 is leading way ahead when it comes to the extras category, and still way ahead from its major competitors.
