PS3's Uphill Battle
The first release of PS3 was wrought with problems. The release date was pushed back several times, and when it finally circulated, the Xbox 360 has been a familiar console to many homes for more than a year. PS3 had a hard time breaking through the walls it has inadvertently built around itself. Most of all, many gamers complained that there were no exclusive games using their platform. In many ways, the PS3 was highly criticized over the years.
But PS3 has been learning from its mistakes. Just this year's E3 Con has Sony PS3 displaying its big figures to the audiences, expecting a bigger growth in their hardware upgrades. This is how PS3 continues to improve, with improvements being downloaded from the Internet. Over the years, while PS3 continued to support multi-platform games, great exclusive games began to be advertised, such as Resistance 2 and God of War III. Sony, it seems, is learning from its mistakes.
There are still some concerns whether PS3 will continue to improve. Only this 2008, the decision of Sony to release Final Fantasy XIII as multi-platform can hurt its sales, especially since the Final Fantasy releases have all been exclusives to PS since it began. Still, it shouldn't be all too bad, because games are beginning to improve, and PS3 is ready to haul them all in with their hardware specs, wi-fi for sharing, and high-def Blu-Ray capabilities.
Of course there will always be competitors. Xbox 360 has more mature lineups for games. Nintendo Wii has gained even more ground over PS3 with their recent release of Wii Fit, with their intentions to let gamers exercise. Handheld gaming devices such as PSP and Nintendo DS, while targeted to different audiences, may also find themselves transitioning to similar markets and competing on PS3 grounds. Still, while PS3 isn't the current reigning champion in the console war, it's still gaining territory, battle after battle.
